Simbang Gabi is the longest and one of the important religious celebration by Filipino Christians for the past 5 centuries. Its liturgical significance emanates from the Season of Advent, being the time of spiritual preparation and purification to worthily welcome and receive the Child Jesus in our midst.
The special celebration is a spiritual preparation of the faithful to receive from God the greatest gift of Christmas, which is Jesus, the Savior of the world.
As stated by the Archdiocese of Manila- Simbang Gabi has become one of the most popular traditions in the country. But it is not just a tradition that is celebrated because there is a need to do so. It is significant because it does not only strengthen relationships among family members but it is also the time of the year when our faith is intensified. This is the season when we mostly feel the presence of the Lord. It does not matter if one has the stamina to complete the 9 day novena masses, what matters most is inside one’s heart. The blessing will pour not based on the number of masses attended, but the disposition of the persons who receive Jesus in their hearts.
