We all journey on different paths at different times. The Period of the Pre-Catechumenate begins the journey by laying a foundation for the faith to grow on and answering lingering questions one might have. The Period of the Catechumenate, or period of instruction, varies for each person. It all depends on how the catechumen is growing in the faith, and when the catechumen is ready to make a full faith commitment to Jesus and the Catholic Church. The Period of Purification and Enlightenment is the final preparation for receiving the sacraments and coincides with a Lent when you feel prepared. The Period of Mystagogy then coincides with the Easter season to break open the mysteries received in the sacraments.
-
On this journey of faith, various Rites are celebrated with the parish and diocesan community as a transition between periods. Full initiation into the Church is beautifully celebrated each year at the Easter Vigil, or at another time as deemed appropriate by the bishop or pastor. We conclude our formal classes with the celebration of Pentecost at the end of Easter season.
What if my child is 7 and has never been baptized?
-
This process of initiation is also adapted for children of the age of reason (7 years old) and older. Their formation will be age appropriate while still participating in the same Rites.
